Can you still drive a diesel van after 2035? Yes, here's the detail

Buying adviceDiesel Vans UK

The 2035 date only stops new sales. Here's what still applies to used diesel vans, from clean air zones to resale.

The short answer is yes. There's no national plan to stop people driving, buying or selling diesel vans after 2035.

What 2035 actually stops

From 2035, dealers can't sell brand-new petrol, diesel or hybrid vans. Every new van must be zero emission. The secondhand market isn't covered.

Where you may still pay

Clean air zones, such as London's ULEZ and city zones elsewhere, can charge vans that don't meet their emissions standard. For diesels that usually means Euro 6. Check each zone before you buy an older van.

Buying tips

  • Choose Euro 6 if you ever drive into a clean air zone
  • Check the service history and the emissions system (DPF and AdBlue)
  • Compare the cost of a used electric van if your routes are short and you can charge overnight
